AZARENKA FINISHED THE SEASON IN 1ST PLACE

PARIS – The Belarussian Victoria Azarenka has retained its position as No. 1 in the world at the end of the season with 550 points WTA ahead of Russian Maria Sharapova, ranked Monday. ‘s Serena Williams, who beat Sharapova Sunday in the final of the Masters, is close and can look back at the top of the rankings in 2013.

The only significant movement in the Top 20 is the fall of two places, from the 6th to the 8th of Czech Petra Kvitova, who had abandoned last week at the Masters for bronchitis. Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki is still likely to return next week the Top 10, if it appears well until Sofia Masters which begins Tuesday, the French Marion Bartoli, who currently holds this position not participating.
